Alejandro Barranquero Carretero


alejandroAlejandro Barranquero (abarranq@hum.uc3m.es) is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism and Audiovisual Communication at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid where he teaches research methodologies, theory and history of communication. He holds a PhD in Journalism at Universidad de Málaga and has completed several postgraduate courses at Universidad Complutense de Madrid: “Specialist in Historial Materialism and Critical Theory”, “Specialist in Communication and Political Management” and “Expert in Communication and Arts”. He has published extensively in the field of participatory communication for social change, including insights to community and citizen media, communication strategies by NGOs and social movements, and critical perspectives on media literacy and edu-communication. Alejandro is presently head of the Thematic Group “Communication and Citizenship” at the Spanish Association of Communication Research (Asociación Española de Investigación de la Comunicación-AE-IC). He was main researcher of the project “Youth and Third Media Sector in Spain” and  is a member of the research group Dialectic Mediation of Social Communication (MDCS) at UCM (www.ucm.es/mdcs). He has also collaborated as a part-time researcher in other research projects by Universidad de Málaga, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and FUHEM-Ecosocial.
